Tales of Narada Amar Chitra Katha, Illustrated Full-Color Comic

The divine sage Narada is one of the most popular figures in Puranic pastimes. No event of significance takes place in the Puranas without the presence or the overt participation of Narada. He is most often depicted as a messenger, always on the move, visiting the devas (gods). The manavas (humans) and the asuras (demons) in turn, and being honored by all. He is a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Although Narada is always referred to with respect in mythological tales, he is often misunderstood and ridiculed by the common people as a carrier of tales and mischief-maker. But his 'mischief' invariably brings about the downfall of the wicked and the triumph of good.

Narada is credit with the invention of the veena, the authorship of the code of law and of the Narada Bhakti Sutra (aphorisms on devotion).

The three tales included in this Amar Chitra Katha are based on Shiva Purana and other pastimes. These stores tell us how Narada, although a divine sage, often fell prey to temptation and pride and became conceited. Fortunately for him, every time he succumbed to human weaknesses, Vishnu was beside him to pull him through. Eventually, he became free from human failings and attained true equanimity of the mind.
