Ecolution (Pan World Traders) has been an eco-focused hemp products manufacturer in Transylvania, Romania, since 1990. They began with a couple of old sewing machines and worked with vintage fabric scraps to make a line of bags and hats.
The world can solve its ecological problems and achieve a healthier standard of living by looking to ecology to guide all their manufacturing, engineering, packaging, distribution, extraction, cultivation, regulation, and consumption activities.
Pan World Traders has always produced products of beauty and quality. These have matured into the products that grace their line today: the elegant and sophisticated, the practical and sturdy, the casual and comfortable in a dozen different product categories. Quality and ecology go hand in hand. Well-made and long-lasting products contribute to ecological health. This principle guides all of their manufacturing decisions, from their choice of trim and fabric to the quality of construction. Durability is an essential factor in determining whether a product is eco or not, because the environmental impact of its production and distribution is spread over the lifetime of that product. A durable product carries a lighter ecological burden.
Ecolution produces bags of every size, use and style, giving you ample variety in your selection to match your customers' needs and wants. Their bags are beautiful, sophisticated, useful, durable, and super hip! Each of their bags has its own unique story about its development and evolution, involving thousands of hours of design and tests by many different people.
Ecolution are devoted to even the smallest details that go into making quality bags. All of their compartments, straps, linings, and edgings are made of hemp. Most of their trim is made from brass. Ecolution have even developed a special edging material, woven from their hemp/flax yarns, which Ecolution use for edging and for taping the seams in most of their bags. All stress points are reinforced with a tremendous amount of extra stitching while every seam on every bag has at least two very strong and clean stitches.
Many other hemp bags on the market are made out of a lighter and weaker fabric that weighs in a bit under 16oz. Other hemp bags, especially those made in China from chemically processed short fiber hemp, are made out of much lighter and weaker fabrics.
In order to make the highest quality bags, Ecolution also use a very strong synthetic thread, because nothing compares to it in strength and durability, and these qualities are an important part of what makes a product ecological.
The ecological value of the increased lifespan of their products far outweighs the much less than 1% synthetic material that this high quality thread represents.
No leather or other animal products are used in their bags whatsoever.
Ecolution uses only the finest 100% hemp fabrics, which Ecolution weave in-house to their unwavering quality control standards. In fact, most of their bags are made from a special 17 oz fabric (HFHWC1) that Ecolution have developed because of its superior strength properties. This is the heaviest and strongest fabric used in the construction of hemp bags in the world today.
Their 17oz fabric has also gone through a really intensive and all-natural finishing process that has boiled and pressed out most of the shorter fibers and contaminants (such as the woody hurd particles). This finishing also brings a significant amount of shrinkage to the fabric, reducing the shrinkage that the products made from it experience when they are washed later by the customer. Furthermore, this fabric has a very tight weave, which has been made even tighter by this finishing. This contributes not only to the strength and durability of the fabric but also to its structuring qualities. Ecolution even waterproof this fabric with an eco-sensible material that contains no heavy metals or other environmentally destructive materials. This material is applied in the finishing process, and so it is bonded directly to the fibers, in contrast with most waterproofing substances that only lie on the surface of the fabric. This product does not provide a 100% effective waterproofing, though, but rather it imparts a significant amount of resistance to water.
Ecolution also make some of their bags and many of their wallets out of three other types of fabrics. One of them is a 14 oz fabric (HFHWC2), which is an excellent sturdy and attractive fabric. Ecolution use it on several of their backpacks and some other bags. It is significantly less expensive for us to produce than the HFHWC1, and this allows us to keep their prices down on these products for which this fabric is suitable.
Another fabric is their beautiful 13 oz herringbone fabric (HFHB1), which Ecolution weave from very clean and golden fine yarns. Ecolution use it for many of their wallets, because it is very flexible and smooth, giving these wallets a sleekness that is desirable
Additionally, Ecolution use a 10 oz canvas fabric (HFC1) for many of their bags and for linings and compartments in most of their bags and wallets. This fabric is very strong and flexible and has a rich texture.
Ecolution dye all of their fabrics with eco-sensible fiber reactive dyes. The fabric types and colors available are specified next to each bag with a corresponding view showing their weave and texture.
Fiber-reactive dyes are a good example of how superior materials are more ecological. These dyes are both the best quality and the most ecologically sound synthetic dyes available. They contain no heavy metals or other known toxic substances. Not only are their colors brighter and richer but they also exhibit superior colorfast properties. These qualities result from their fiber-reactivity, meaning the dye molecules bond directly with the fiber molecules (see the adjoining diagram).
Very little residual dye comes out in the wastewater when they are dyed or in the wash water when they are laundered by the customer. These dyes were carefully developed, with the
environment in mind,in the Swiss laboratories of Bezema, and they meet the strict European Union criteria for eco-friendly pigments. Ecolution worked for several years to develop a system for dyeing with these fiber-reactives, and one year ago Ecolution were able to start using them full-scale. Dyeing with reactives is significantly more difficult and expensive than with conventional direct dyes, but their quality and ecological benefits make it well worthwhile.
